October 13, 2013 - "A Farewell Reflection"

Some people have "life verses" -- verses from scripture that are especially meaningful for their lives. Some call them "favorite verses." Whatever yours might be, it's good to share them with others and give the reason why they are important. If you don't have a favorite, perhaps you'll find a place to start in this final sermon from The Rev. Gretchen Lord Anderson to the congregation of First Presbyterian Church of Lodi, WI.

The apostles demanded of Jesus to increase their faith. Yet Jesus told them all they needed to accomplish what God had called them to do is to have faith the size of a tiny mustard seed. If that seed is cultivated and allowed to mature, it is the gift that will see us through all kinds of ministry and all kinds of challenges. Rev. Gretchen Lord Anderson. First Presbyterian Church of Lodi, WI

September 8, 2013 - "Who Knows What's Next?"

Today's sermon is from the shortest book in the Bible: Philemon. It is the story of Paul's love for Onesimus whose name means "useful." Onesimus was about to return to his owner Philemon, for Onesimus was his slave. And he was to carry a letter from Paul asking Philemon to accept Onesimus not as a slave but as brother in Christ. Onesimus didn't know what kind of reception he might get and he would have a 1,500 mile ride by ship to get back to his "owner." You and I are like that. We don't know what's next. But we do know that in all circumstances, God asks us to be "useful." Rev. Gretchen Lord Anderson. First Presbyterian Church, Lodi, WI.

Based on Luke 14:1, 7-14, the sermon today takes a look at humility and the understanding that every person is equally valuable in the sight of God; that even the last chair in the band is valuable to the sound of the entire band.
